The Boston University men’s swimming and diving team got off to a strong start in its season opener as it cruised past Lehigh, 166.5-117.5, Saturday afternoon at Jacobs Pool

The Terriers finished atop the podium in 11 events, while Trevor WinansGarrett ChinDarren Ty and Stuart Vickery each rallied for at least two first-place finishes. Winans led the Terriers with victories in the 200 free, 100 free and the 400 free relay. Michael Choate and Cameron Schoffstall also tallied first-place finishes for the Terriers. BU placed multiple top-three finishes all but five events.

BU will look to carry its momentum into its home opener next Saturday as it welcomes Bucknell to Competition Pool on Saturday, Oct. 14.

The Mountain Hawks opened the season Saturday in a Patriot League dual meet against Boston University at Jacobs Pool. Lehigh combined for three individual victories and one relay win as the Terriers claimed a 166.5-117.5 win on the day.

The Mountain Hawks began the day by claiming the top time in the 200 medley relay as Walker WilsonTyler ChristZach Tieke and Greg Giannella combined for the winning time of 1:35.13.

Freshman Greg Gardner came out strong in his collegiate debut by winning the 1000 freestyle. His winning time of 9:52.96 was nearly a six second advantage over Boston’s Oli Holt.

Tieke recorded Lehigh’s second individual victory on the day as he won the 50 free with a solid time of 21.55 in his season debut. Giannella picked up big points for Lehigh as he placed second at a pace of 21.77.

Wilson racked up Lehigh’s third individual win of the day as he paced the field with a time of 4:42.20 in the 500 freestyle. Kevin Fleck secured the second spot with a time of 4:46.38 and Gardner also got points with his fourth place finish with a time of 4:50.51.

Tieke and Giannella also placed in the top-three in the 100 free. Tieke took second with a time of 46.98 and Giannella placed third with a time of 47.51.

Wilson had a solid performance in the 200 free as he placed second with a time of 1:41.58. Fleck also scored with a fourth place finish with a time of 1:46.57.

Matt Feryo scored points in his collegiate debut with a fourth place finish in the 100 backstroke 53.92. the freshman also scored in the 200 backstroke with a third place finish with a time of 1:56.34.

Christ was Lehigh’s top performer in the 100 breaststroke as he palced second with a time of 1:00.50. Nico Lastauskas also picked up a point as he placed fifth at a pace of 1:03.31.

James Mauk and Collon Hanlon picked up team points in the 200 butterfly. Mauk placed fourth with a time of 2:02.04 and Hanlon placed fifth with a time of 2:04.01 in his collegiate debut.

Jimmy Davey and Max Goldenberg led Lehigh in the 100 butterfly. Davey took second with a time of 52.70, while Goldenberg placed third in his first collegiate meet with a time of 52.86.

Following Saturday’s season opener against Boston U, the Mountain Hawks have a break from competition before they return to action on October 20 at West Chester.
