Arkansas Heads To Columbia To Open SEC Action

Press release courtesy of Arkansas Athletics:

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Nearly a month removed from its season-opening victory over SMU, the Arkansas women’s swimming and diving team (1-0) heads north to Columbia, Missouri, for a tri-meet against the Missouri Tigers and South Carolina Gamecocks at the Mizzou Aquatic Center on Saturday at noon.

Mizzou is coming off a first-place finish over seven other Missouri schools at the Show-Me Showdown, while this will be South Carolina’s first meet of the 2017-18 season.

The Razorbacks lead the all-time series over the Tigers 14-9, including taking two of the last three meetings. Arkansas and the Gamecocks meet for the second straight season, after dropping a home meet to South Carolina last season 177-123. Arkansas has won two of the last three meetings with USC, as well.

Over the last five seasons, Arkansas is 19-5 in dual meets away from home, including an 8-5 mark against SEC opponents.

In the season opener, Arkansas dominated SMU, winning the first nine events, including sweeping the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle, 1m springboard and 100 free. Arkansas went on to sweep the 3m springboard, as well.

Freshmen Peyton Palsha, Shea Gregson and Brooke Schultz shined. Palsha touched first in both of her events with times of 10:06.92 in the 1000 free and 4:57.75 in the 500 free.

Gregson finished second in her first collegiate event in the 200 free (1:53.75), behind senior Chelsea Tatlow. She followed that performance with a first-place finish in the 100 free in 52.53.

Schultz broke two school records in the 1m (343.43) and 3m (366.38) and a pool record in the 3m springboard. On the 1m, Schultz, freshman Maha Amer (273.15) and senior Nicole Gillis (301.50) all notched NCAA Zone qualifying scores, while Schultz and junior Marissa Green (293.40) qualified on the 3m.
