Maddy Dalcamo is leaving Wisconsin after two seasons and headed west to San Diego, where she will use her final three seasons of eligibility at San Diego State University.
Dalcamo was a huge recruit coming out of high school, with 5 sprint free state championships in the state of Kansas, and proceeded to have a good freshman season (with a best of 50.48 in the 100 free to win the C-Final at Big Ten’s in 2011), but missed her entire sophomore season.
She will join the Aztecs’ Chelsea Bailey, who will now be in the same class as Dalcamo assuming a redshirt is granted; and incoming freshman Whitney Weisz out of Minnesota (50.57 in the 100 free) as a good young sprint nucleus for San Diego State. Dalcamo also has a 1:50.08 in the 200 free.
San Diego St. finished 2nd at last year’s MWC Conference Championships, just 5 points behind Boise State. With Dalcamo on board, and the Broncos graduating a lot of points, they will seek to win the MWC title in their last attempt before joining the Big West in 2013.
In addition to the spring additions of Weisz and Dalcamo, head coach Mike Shrader has also brought in a 1:12 (long course) 100 breaststroker out of South Africa named Kelsey Jenkinson.
She will fall in step behind the lead of Katelyn Weddle, who was a 2011 NCAA qualifier in the breaststroke and will be entering her senior season in 2012-2013.
The Aztecs finished 45th at last year’s NCAA Championships, thanks to diving points from the graduating Kristen Meier, and this is a program with a bright future.

Word on the street is weisz couldnt get into madison academically, and i know maddy was out all season with a wrist injury or something.
Whitney Weisz had originally committed to Wisconsin in the fall too…
Is it the sunshine in San Diego, or is there something more to these girls moving away from the Badgers?
