Sacred Heart’s Lauren Somers Named NEC Co-Swimmer Of The Week

Sacred Heart University sophomore Lauren Somers was tabbed as the Northeast Conference Co-Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday for her performances in the Pioneers opening weekend of competition.

Somers finished second in each of her individual events during the Pioneers double dual meet with Central Connecticut State and St. Bonaventure. She touched the wall in 1:53.59 in the 200 freestyle, which is over three second faster than any other time in the NEC thus far. Somers also posted the league’s top time, to date, in the 100 freestyle, clocking a time of 52.52. She also turned in a top-five NEC performance in the 50 free, at 24.66

The Pioneers return to action on Saturday with a trip to Iona College. The Pioneers will take on Iona, St. Francis Brooklyn and Wagner, with diving beginning at 8:45 and swimming events at 11:30.
