Picking up the first weekly award of her collegiate career, freshman freestyler Libby Howell was named the Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week, announced by the League Tuesday.
Earning the first victories of her career, Howell played a vital part in the Bears’ first-ever, program win over the Kansas Jayhawks and South Dakota Coyotes. Howell won every individual event she participated in, starting with the 1000 free where she dominated the race in 10:19.63 – she out-swam the runner-up by nearly 14 seconds.
Turning up the speed, she finished first in the 200 free (1:52.31) and then again in the 500 free (4:58.43). Serving as the first leg in the 800 free relay, she helped the Bears to victory as the squad combined for a time of 7:37.73. The only second-place finish she earned was in the 400 free relay where she and the Bears finished behind Kansas with a time of 3:31.49.
