Boise State swimming and diving cruised to its second-straight victory to open the season defeating the University of Nevada 163-137 on Friday afternoon at Reno. The Broncos claimed victories in 10 of 16 events against the Wolf Pack on the day as Boise State improved to 2-0 in fall duals.

“I thought we competed hard and were on the winning end of a lot of close races,” said head coach Jeremy Kipp. “I think when you look at the meet overall it came down to less than five seconds total when you break it down. The girls did a really good job at racing hard and racing all the way to the end, they did a good job of getting their hands on the wall first. Overall it was great to walk out of there with a win.”

Abbey Sorensen paced the Broncos bringing home victories in all four events she competed in the 50 free (23.32), 200 back (1:59.81) and both the 200 medley and 400 free relays.

“Abbey had a good meet for us,” commented Kipp. “She had a really good anchor leg on the 200 medley, we were behind at the split and she came back and won it in the last five yards. It was a big momentum lift when she won the 50 (free) going into the break and it was the first time she swam under two minutes in the 200 back in a dual meet.”

The meet began with the Broncos winning the first of two relays on the day as Ally KleinsorgenRobin PingerEmmie Jenningsand Sorensen recorded a 1:43.66 to edge Nevada’s top team in the 200 medley. Later the Broncos also claimed the 400-yard free relay with Kleinsorgen, Jennings, Sorensen and Cody Evans turning in a time of 3:24.69.

Jennings also won three events on the day taking the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.21 to go with being a part of the two relay wins.

Freshman Hayley Hill swam 10:25.85 to win the 1,000-yard free with sophomore Ally Schultz coming in third at 10:34.21.

Brittany Wen, a freshman, won the 200-yard butterfly (2:03.64) and placed second behind Jennings in the 100-yard butterfly (57.08).
