Male Swimmer of the Week
Mauro Castillo • Texas A&M
Senior • Zacatecas, Mexico
Castillo won three individual events with NCAA ‘B’ cut times as No. 15 Texas A&M defeated No. 5 Texas, the Aggies’ first win over the Longhorns since 1962. He won the 200 breaststroke with the nation’s best time of 1:55.93. Castillo also took first in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 53.70 (fifth in the nation) and the 200 IM in a time of 1:47.54 (13th in the nation). He was part of the winning 200 medley relay that finished with a time of 1:27.06.
Male Diver of the Week
Colin Zeng • Tennessee
Junior • Fujian, China
Zeng swept the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions for the second time this season in No. 15 Tennessee’s dual meet win at No. 13 Louisville, the Vols’ first win over the Cardinals since 2012. He led a 1-2-3 Tennessee finish on the 3-meter with a season-best score of 439.65. Zeng took first in the 1-meter with a final score of 357.00.
Male Freshman of the Week
Hugo Gonzalez • Auburn
Rivas-Vaciamadrid, Spain
In No. 9 Auburn’s win over No. 20 South Carolina, Gonzalez won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:58.72, the 11th best time in the nation. He was also a part of the winning 400 medley relay (3:15.84) and finished second in the 200 fly (1:48.42). Gonzalez’s exhibition time in the 200 IM of 1:46.74 is the eighth fastest time in the nation.
Female Swimmer of the Week
Tess Cieplucha • Tennessee
Sophomore • Georgetown, Ontario
In No. 12 Tennessee’s dual meet win at No. 11 Louisville, Cieplucha won the 400 IM with a time of 4:11.22, the fifth fastest time in the nation. She also won the 500 free with a time of 4:48.43 and placed second in the 200 free with a time of 1:47.83.
Female Diver of the Week
Brooke Schultz • Arkansas
Freshman • Fayetteville, Ark.
Schultz won both springboard events in Arkansas’ win over Nebraska. She broke the 1-meter pool record and the Arkansas school record with a score of 369.90. Schultz claimed the 3-meter title with a final score of 347.55 for her eighth straight win to open her collegiate career.
Female Freshman of the Week
Bailey Bonnett • Kentucky
Pittsburgh, Pa.
Bonnett helped No. 15 Kentucky defeat No. 25 Missouri and Southern Illinois at the Saluki Invite. On Friday night, she posted an NCAA ‘B’ standard time of 1:02.05 in the 100 breaststroke to lead Kentucky in a 1-2-3-4 finish. On Saturday, Bonnett led Kentucky in its 1-2-3 finish in the 200 breaststroke with her NCAA ‘B’ cut time of 2:14.30, sweeping the breaststroke events for the second time this season. She added second-place finishes in both IM events and helped the Wildcats to victory in both the 200 and 400 medley relays, posting the fastest breaststroke splits in both events.
