Press Release courtesy of British Swimming

Tickets for the 2018 Edinburgh International Swim Meet, including the British Swimming Championships will go on sale today (FRI17)

The championships, hosted by British Swimming and SASA East District, will be held at the Royal Commonwealth Pool from Thursday 1st – Sunday 4th March 2018, and with tickets starting at just £7.50 for adults will be an opportunity to see some of the world’s best swimmers in action. But tickets are limited so don’t miss out!

The competitions, combined for the first time, will be the last chance for stars such as Adam Peaty, James Guy and Ross Murdoch to compete before heading off to the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in April.

British Swimming Head of Performance Services Adam Clarke said: “With the Commonwealth Games taking place a matter of weeks after the Edinburgh International and British Championships this will be a chance to see Britain’s finest swimmers in their final preparations before they head to the Gold Coast.

“The meet also serves as the selection meet for our top juniors seeking selection to represent Great Britain at the 2018 European Junior Championships in Helsinki.”

Claire Rusack, Leisure Manager at the Royal Commonwealth Pool, Edinburgh Leisure said:  “We’re looking forward to welcoming the good and the great of swimming and showing off our wonderful facilities at the Royal Commonwealth Pool.

“It’s a great opportunity for folk to see the best British swimmers in Scotland before they head to Australia for the Commonwealth Games.”

Councillor Ian Campbell, Deputy Culture and Communities Convener for the City of Edinburgh Council, said: “This is one of the biggest events to take place at Edinburgh’s flagship pool since the Royal Commonwealth Games.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to head along to the Royal Commonwealth Pool and see some of the sport’s best British stars. We really do have one of the top swimming facilities in the UK on our doorstep, and this is one of the most prestigious swimming competitions to take place.”

The Edinburgh International Swim Meet has a long history in the international swimming calendar, having first taken place in the 1980s. After a three-year hiatus leading up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games, the Meet returned to the RCP in 2015 and has since become hugely popular, with a variety of international teams and world-leading athletes competing.

About UK Sport

Every athlete who has received National Lottery funding will have a story to tell of the difference that it has made to their Olympic or Paralympic dream. But the simple truth is that the National Lottery has taken sport in the UK to a new level. Each successive Games proves that there is no longer any margin for error if you want the top prize. Medals are won and lost by the smallest possible margins – the power of UK Sport’s National Lottery investment is in its ability to seek out those tenths, hundredths or even thousandths of a second, wherever they exist, and make sure that if there’s a close call, British athletes emerge on the winning side.
