After having a solid meet at the Pro Swim in Austin, which included winning the first ever Mystery 200 IM, Madisyn Cox spoke with SwimSwam about the training she put in over the holidays. Specifically, she talked about doing Eddie Reese’s infamous 20×50’s fly on :35. Except Cox swam them IM (5 of each stroke), and she did the set twice.
Madisyn Cox won the women’s version of the event in 2:16.12. Her splits were as follows: 27.54/38.31/35.05/35.22. Alicia Wilson tried to run her down on the final 50, splitting 29.17/39.39/35.29/32.96 as she placed 2nd in 2:16.81.
Cox made her long course international debut for Team USA over the summer when she took bronze in the 200 IM at the World Championships and gold as a prelims-only swimmer on the 800 free relay. Those relays added to her 3 medals from the 2016 Short Course World Championships. As a college swimmer at Texas, Cox was a 10-time All-American.

WOMEN’S AND MEN’S MYSTERY IM:
The 20x50s is a fly set, not im. Switching strokes makes it easier
Okay you do breaststroke on :35 then
Madisyn is incredibly impressive. From what I’ve heard from the many accounts of this set on SwimSwam, many of the men didn’t make 20×50 on :35 fly. Madisyn did it IM, which is arguably just as hard, if not harder. What an accomplishment!
Started to watch the video from the Mystery IM’s and Rowdy said that something like this has never been done before. Events like this have actually be broadcast live before and done before (started about 20 years ago or so), just not in the US. There always seems to be comments like this from Rowdy. Could someone please provide him with some research and information. It will not be me.
Will every swimmer on the Texas team get their own article on the 20 x 50? I think we have seen half the team so far.
That would be fine with me!!
can i get a 20 x 50 video/article about watching all the videos about the 20×50’s
Keep them coming!!!
I can’t wait for the documentary!
“What if I told you, a team did a set…and it was hard?”
30 for 30: 20 x 50
Needs an inception-style “BWAH” but honestly that’s a p good first draft.
