Dressel is so good he’s still the cover boy even though he’s no longer in the NCAA

We pinned the wrong year. This is 2018. Should be fixed now.

I’m starting to think Dressel is going to swim the 200 IM at SECs. He went 1:44 on Saturday against Tennessee. (Along with a 19.4 50, a 53.2 100 breast, and another 18.9 relay split)

The problem I see with Dressel doing the 200 IM is team points. That pushes Mark Szaranek down in the standings and he is a favorite.

Dressel could swim the 200 IM at SECs where winning the team title won’t be difficult for UF, and swim the 50 at NCAAs allowing Szaranek to have 1 less person to compete against.

I’d guess Dressel will still swim his regular events at SECs but we can all hope.

Szaranek is a Swiss Army knife like Dressel and Switkowski, and like Stokowski will become. He can swim anything, and he could theoretically drop the 200 IM to swim the 2 fly, 2 breast (he’s really come on in it this year) and 4 IM at SECs. The team title is won on depth, and UF has it in spades. Also, we know he’s going to swim both IMs at NCs. This would also give the coaches a chance to see which would be his better third event this year – 2 fly, or 2 breast. He’s already been a 1:55 this year.

Dressel will be swimming for his SEC legacy in 50 free, 100 free, and 100 fly. I don’t think he will be swimming 200 IM until summer. It’s about scoring points at SECs and NCAAs. Besides… Florida is already the favorite in both IMs without Dressel.

I am going to make a really radical guess here–how about Dressel swimming 200 IM, 100 Breast & 200 Free at SEC’s. Now that would be something to see…

It would, but I would really love to see a 39 and a 17.

I am wondering why Dressel did not swim the 100 fly in dual meets.

Who thinks Dressel will do a full taper for NCAA’s? I’ve heard many say he saved it for Worlds last year.

Awww ye, best time of the year hands down. Can’t wait to load more live results page than my poor laptop can handle, refresh furiously throughout and save more bookmarks than I know what to do with. Thanks for the little compilation here!

America East is sponsoring a championship for both men and women. Stony Brook has reinstated its women’s team and the conference added Virginia Military Institute as an affiliate member for men and women’s swimming and diving.

About Jared Anderson

Jared Anderson

Jared Anderson swam for nearly twenty years. Then, Jared Anderson stopped swimming and started writing about swimming. He's not sick of swimming yet. Swimming might be sick of him, though. Jared was a YMCA and high school swimmer in northern Minnesota, and spent his college years swimming breaststroke and occasionally pretending …
