I’ve heard that too; but I’ve also heard he’s very kind and great with kids in a more relaxsd setting. He’s an introvert; he probably has to make adjustments socially to avoid getting overwhelmed at big events. Remember, he didn’t even like interviews at all back in the beginning?
Ah yeah that makes sense. It’s just that my brother is a coach. On of his swimmers had asked Michael for a picture once and he said no. He also wouldn’t sign a shirt for one of them. I try and understand why he would have to be like that. It’s probably hard for younger fans to understand though.
My brother, also a former coach, has said the same things about refusals for autographs and pics with kids. However, I met him at UltraSwim a few years ago (first meet back after the suspension), and he was very nice and funny. Happy to sign lots of autographs… Though I don’t know if it was just him trying to be seen in a more positive light.
Braden Keith is the Editor-in-Chief and a co-founder/co-owner of SwimSwam.com.
He first got his feet wet by building The Swimmers' Circle beginning in January 2010, and now comes to SwimSwam to use that experience and help build a new leader in the sport of swimming.
Aside from his life on the InterWet, …
a little late…. Happy birthday Michael! 😀 😀
I’ve heard that phelps isn’t particularly kind towards his fans sometimes :/ I hope that isn’t true
