Kibler, Carmel Break National Public School Records at IHSAA Prelims

2018 Boys High School State Championship

  • February 23rd-24th
  • The Natatorium, Indinapolis, IN
  • Short course yards

Drew Kibler broke the National Federation of State High School Associaton’s national public school record in prelims of the 50 free at the 2018 Indiana Boys State Meet, and helped the Carmel boys to a new public school record in the 200 medley relay.

Kibler switched up his events for this year, opting out of the 100 and 200 free, and instead swimming the 50 free and 100 fly. In the 50, Kibler blasted a new best time of 19.38 to come in just under the previous public school record of 19.43 held by Vlad Morozov, who is a former NCAA record holder. Kibler came in .09 seconds off the public school record that SwimSwam recognizes, which is 19.29 by Caeleb Dressel in 2013. Kibler certainly has a shot at taking that record in finals as well. He also shattered the Indiana high school reocord, which was 19.85 from Jack Franzman last year. Franzman came in 2nd in prelims with a 20.03.

Kibler was also a member of the Carmel 200 medley relay team that shattered the national public school record of 1:29.20, which was set by Minnetonka last year. The team of Wyatt Davis (22.39), Stefano Bautista (24.83), Drew Kibler (20.64), and Andrew Couchon (20.14) combined to throw down a 1:28.00, breakin the public record by over a second. Kibler’s split was the fastest fly split out of any state meet so far this year, at least as far as we could find. If you know of any faster splits, please let me know in the comments so I can update the post.

Probably North Allegheny from Pittsburgh. They broke relay national records multiple times in 2017.
Same boys won Junior Nationals swimming for a North Allegheny club.
