Sycamore swimming and diving’s Mykenzie Kostka, has been named as a 2018 State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award recipient.

The State Farm MVC Good Neighbor award is given to ten student-athletes across the Missouri Valley Conference following each athletic season. This award is aimed at honoring those who continually provide exceptional performances in their sport, the classroom and their community.

“Mykenzie epitomizes what it means to be a Sycamore. She is a tremendous force in the classroom and is always willing to help out her peers through her tutoring efforts, along with volunteering and being the SAAC representative for the MVC. This couldn’t be a given to a more deserving student-athlete then Mykenzie,” said head coach Matt Leach.

Kostka, a sophomore swimmer for the Sycamores, has stapled herself as one of the best-rounded members of the young Indiana State squad.

Not only was Kostka a key player during ISU’s highly successful 2017-2018 season, but is also a member of various organizations outside the pool.

Kostka is part of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), where she serves as a Community Service Officer on the executive board. She is also the female representative for Indiana State in the MVC SAAC.

In addition, Kostka also serves as an Honors Peer Mentor, Student-Athlete Mentor and a chemistry tutor on campus.

Kostka manages the daily challenges of college athletics, along with her other organizational involvements, while still maintaining a 3.979 grade point average majoring in chemistry and making dean’s list every semester.

“I’m honored to be recognized for this award. Being a student-athlete requires a lot of hard work. It is challenging to balance both a demanding major and sport, all while still being involved in my campus community. However, it’s rewarding to have all my hard work pay off, both in the classroom and in the pool this year,” said Kostka.
