Dressel Throws Down 17.3 Anchor Split in 200 Medley Relay Prelims

2018 MEN’S NCAA SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Florida’s Caeleb Dressel had another explosive performance with his anchor leg in prelims of the 200 medley relay. Dressel, who blew away the field last night with a 17.63 in the individual 50 free, put up the fastest 50 free split ever in 17.30. The former fastest ever was a 17.71 done by Dressel in 2017. That marked his 7th career split under 18. The only other man to have broken the barrier is USC’s Vlad Morozov, who was the first to do so in 2013.

Sub-18 50 Free Relay Splits:

  1. 17.30- Caeleb Dressel (Florida), 2018
  2. 17.71- Caeleb Dressel (Florida), 2017

Florida was in 5th in their heat through the fly leg, but Dressel chased down the field to pull them into 2nd at the finish. Tonight, they’ll be going for their second relay title of the meet after winning the 200 free relay on Thursday.

Dressel ran down anchors that went 18.6, 18.5, 18.8. All of which are super fast times.

Lesson here..If you’re on a non-dressel relay and also not 2 seconds ahead you will not win.
