Freshman Lukas Menkhoff took the event by nearly a second, posting a lifetime best 53.39. Menkhoff was the only swimmer in the field out under 25 seconds, hitting the 50 turn at 24.87. He then went 28.52 on the back 50, which tied with runner-up Samuel McManus’ 2nd 50 split. While it was a great time, it was still about 2 and a half seconds off the Division 3 record of 50.94 by Andrew Wilson. That record is stunningly fast however, and Menkhoff is only a freshman, giving him 3 more years to work his way down. Menkhoff is also 22 years old, he didn’t start college immediately because he was a member of the Singaporean military. He has also represented Singapore at several World Cups.
