Despite Injury, Ress Swims to #11 All-Time While Pieroni Moves to #7; Dressel Swims 4th Fastest Time in History

2018 MEN’S NCAA SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Despite having to scratch out of the 200 free on Friday due to an injury, NC State’s Justin Ress really stepped up for the Wolfpack this morning. Ress, who has been dealing with a back injury, cut 4 tenths from his best time this morning to qualify 4th for the 100 free final. His 41.34 puts him #11 on the all-time top performers list. He would have made the top 10 on the list had Indiana’s Blake Pieroni not bumped him out as Pieroni put up a 41.16 in the same heat. Pieroni is now #7 all-time.

Ress’ Splits:

  • 1st 50 Split- 19.67
  • 2nd 50 Split- 21.67
  • Final Time- 41.34

Dressel’s Splits:

  • 1st 50 Split- 19.19
  • 2nd 50 Split- 21.49
  • Final Time- 40.68

Reigning NCAA champion Caeleb Dressel of Florida was the only swimmer to break 41 this morning, cruising in at 40.68. Dressel will look to make history once again as he has a shot at becoming the first man ever to break 40 seconds in the final. His time this morning was the 4th fastest performance in history, but his best remains a 40.00 from last season’s NCAAs.
