That took a full second off his former best 1:40.77 from last season’s NCAA meet. Vazaios’ performance moves him up to #7 on the all-time top performers list, just 3 hundredths behind U.S. Olympic butterfliers Tom Shields and Michael Phelps, who are tied for 5th all-time.

So sad to see Schooling who becomes the 1st man to go sub 1:38 in 200 fly, turns out in this state…
Vazaios is on fire. 1:39 200 IM, a bunch of outstanding relay splits and now this? I see him and Switkowski battling it out again unless Quah has more in the tank.
Also, I’m not even a huge Schooling fan but you’ve still gotta feel for the guy. He just looks like he’s got no confidence anymore, you can see it in the way he swims. Even last year he swam “big,” but at this meet he swims scared. I don’t think it’s a missed taper or not working hard, I think it’s all mental. Hope we can see some of that cockiness again.
Don’t sleep on lanza
Oh, you right. He’s definitely a huge factor. Quah could easily end up outside of top 3.
