Fiona Muir held a very slight lead going into the first turn, holding it through the 50, and expanding it a bit on the 3rd 25. She then held on to it to get her hand on the wall first by roughly half a second. She touched only a little off the Division 3 record, but will return for it again next year. She was one of three swimmers under 50 seconds in the field, with senior Emma Waddell coming in 2nd and fellow junior Meg taylor coming in 3rd. Muir has set herself up as the favorite going into next season.

Crile Hart broke another Division 3 record as a freshman, this time edging out the previous 200 back record by .16 seconds. Runner-up Cindy Cheng actually was in the lead following the first 100, but that quickly changed as Hart outsplit her by a second on the 3rd 50, and 2 seconds on the 4th 50.

KT Kustritz nearly broke another Division 3 record, but settled for the meet record, which sat at 2:12.30, just 1-tenth of a second slower than the D3 record. Kustritz actually won the 200 by less than she won the 100 breast earlier in the meet, only beating runner-up Caroline White by a second.Kustritz was out pretty fast, hitting the 100 wall at 1:02.81, but came home much slower, only going 1:09.46 on the back 100.

Laura Westphal, the freshman from Williams, had opened up a very large lead at the halfway point of the race, and carried it through to the end. A pair of sophomores followed her, Allie Scholand came in 2nd and Kendall Vanderhoof came in 3rd. All 3 girls went best times. Westphal was very consistent, holding 1:00s for the bulk of the race. It should be noted that the top seed, Julia Durmer, declared false start on the race.
WOMEN’S 400 YARD FREESTYLE RELAY

- Denison – 3:24.32
The Emory team of Fiona Muir, Cindy Cheng, Ming-fen Ong, and Megan Taylor shattered the NCAA Division 3 record with their 3:18.46. Muir led of with a 49.84, followed by Cheng at 49.50, Ong at 50.08, and Taylor at 49.04. It should be noted that Crile Hart led off runner-up Kenyon’s relay with a 49.99, which would have been good for 4th in the 100 free earlier tonight.
