DAVIS, Calif. — Ground has officially broken at the Ted and Rand Schaal Aquatics Center on construction of a new Team Center which will add a new conference room, coaching offices, and team meeting spaces. To celebrate this new campus project, an official groundbreaking ceremony will take place at the Schaal Aquatics Center on Saturday, Apr. 21, at 10:30 a.m, and is open to the public.

“The new team center will positively affect our program in numerous ways,” said Daniel Leyson, the Child and Meisel Families Director of Men’s Water Polo. “Primarily, having our offices on the pool deck will make us more accessible to our student-athletes. It will serve as our central meeting location and a place where we can watch film as a team, but also as a place where our student-athletes can come in and watch film on their own or to study. The Team Center at Schaal will give us a recruiting advantage and provide a better experience for our student-athletes.”

Women’s water polo head coach, Jamey Wright, also expressed his gratitude by saying, “The team center addition, made possible by the generous gifts of several past parents, alums and friends of Aggie aquatics provides us with a fantastic venue for our teams to meet, study and interact with each other and their coaches.” Wright concluded his thanks by saying, “Rand would have a giant grin on his face if he were here seeing this final chapter underway. Thanks to the Raycrafts and to everyone.”

This multi-million dollar facility has been supported largely through the contributions of alumni and friends of UC Davis aquatic sports. Thanks to a lead gift from Cathy & Jack Raycraft, a formal fundraising effort was launched to fulfill the vision originally planned for the facility. For full project details and a description of select recognition opportunities that are still available, please click here.

All gifts over $1,000 for the Team Center will be recognized on a Donor Wall of Honor located at its entry.

The project is expected to be completed in the winter of 2019.
