Köhler Wins Twice, Heintz Drops World #2 200 IM in Bergen

2018 BERGEN SWIM FESTIVAL

Germany was well represented yesterday in Bergen, with Sarah Köhler swimming to two wins and Philip Heintz putting down the #2 time in the world in the 200 IM.

In the 800 free, Köhler was 8:20.53, decimating the meet record by over thirty seconds and also finishing by a similar margin over Sweden’s Hanna Eriksson (8:55.97). Later, in the 200 free, Köhler again won over Eriksson, 1:59.10 to 2:00.67.

Heintz was the only finisher under 2:02 in the 200 IM, pulling out a 1:56.67 to shoot to the #2 spot in the 2017-18 world rankings.

In the women’s 50 fly, Sarah Sjöström cranked out a 25.53 to win over her Swedish countrymate Sara Junevik (26.68). Victor Johansson, also of Sweden, broke the meet record with a 15:09.11 to take the 1500 free. Meanwhile, Swedish breaststroker Erik Persson sailed to a 2:09.21 to take the 200 breast.

Johansson took 2nd in the 200 free (1:49.25), finishing just behind Germany’s Clemens Rapp (1:48.70).

Karl, Heintz is 3rd, Wang Shun swam 1:56.57 at Chinese Nats on Saturday. BTW Köhler is also 3rd.
