Vlad Morozov won his 2nd race of the meet and swam a world-leader in the men’s 100 free on day 3 of the 2018 Russian Swimming Championships. His 47.75 makes him the 4th person this year to go sub-48 in the event in long course. The swim was also just .13 seconds away from his lifetime best, which was set all the way back in 2013 – he hasn’t been better than 47.9 since 2015. His 2017 best was just 48.28, so this is a big return-to-course for Morozov in the 100 long course after years of focusing on the 50 and short course racing in the last few years.

Both he and runner-up Danila Izotov (48.31) were fast enough to earn roster qualifications, while Vladislav Grinev (48.68) and backstroker Kliment Kolesnikov (48.71) will be favored to join them on the relay. Grinev’s previous best time in long course was just 49.55.
Yulia Efimova, the defending Worlds bronze medalist in the event (and last year’s top European), won the women’s 100 breaststroke in 1:06.48. She was the only qualifier from that race, finishing more than a full second ahead of the field. Daria Chikunova finished 2nd in 1:07.62, and was actually six-tenths faster than Efimova at 50 meters. Efimova was just 5th at the turn before crushing the field coming home.
She was faster and currently ranks 3rd in the world with her 1:06.32 at the 2018 TYR Pro Swim Series meet in Atlanta.

Other Finals Results
- After breaking the Russian Record in the women’s 50 free on Saturday, Maria Kameneva won the 50 back on Sunday in 27.84 – half-a-second from the National Record in that event. She and Anastasia Fesikova (Zueva), the current record holder, were both under the qualifying standard; Zueva finished 2nd in 27.91. Daria Vaskina finished 3rd and broke the Russian Junior Record with a 28.08.

Semi-Finals Highlights
- Nikita Ulyanov qualified 1st in the men’s 100 back in 53.84, almost a second ahead of the short course World Record holder Kliment Kolesnikov (54.75). This race should be much faster in finals, and they’ll have to be – it takes 53.98 to qualify for Euros.
- Svetlana Chimrova swam a 2:08.70 in the women’s 200 fly semi-final, a whopping 7 seconds ahead of the field.
- Veronika Andrusenko qualified 1st in the 200 free in 1:56.54, leading a trio better than 1:59. That swim for Andrusenko ties her for 6th in the world this year.
He went a huge best time in the 50 SCM at Euros. That and all his good 100 IMs, consistent sub 47 relay splits, and saying that he was focusing on the 50 last year means that this shouldn’t be such a shock. Shoulda been medaling at every big event in this for the past 5 years… never too late I guess.
What a race in store at Europeans! Scott, Mettella, Morozov to name a few!
Metella was the biggest surprise of the Worlds last year for me. Going in I knew he was consistent, especially in Butterfly, but he showed serious dominance over every non American especially in that semi. If Dressel wasn’t around I think he woulda found a way in front of Adrian in that 100.
Guess he’s gone back on “the stuff”
Are there any Russian fans on this site??I’m curious what happened with Ivan Girev. 51.83 is a disastrous time for him.
He swam 1:50.21 at the preliminary heat and is 11th on 200 Free
Probably off his juice cycle
about time
I’m just wondering if Vladimir Morozov can read and write in Russian. If this is the National Championships conducted in Moscow broadcasted by Russian major TV network then why the name of the swimmer isn’t written in Russian on his cap. Kind of not patriotic. Or it is the requirement of his foreign sponsors?.
I trained with him at USC and he is fully fluent in Russian. For what I remember he grew up in Russia. He is a really nice guy!
are you basing that off of a stock photo from an international competition? you over-analyze too much
ive heard interviews with him, hes fluent
Go away
Spajari swam 47,95 at prelims on maria lenk
Where has that been the last few years?
He had to take a break from doping since the world was catching on
Are russian nats the new chinese nats?
