Stuart Swinburn Nearly Breaks Age Record at Australia Age Champs Day 6

On day 6 of the Australian Age Swimming Championships Laura Taylor and Brittany Castelluzzo finished 1-2 yet again, this time in the gorls 17-18 200 fly. Taylor went out faster, 1:02.05 to 1:03.56, and held on to win by exactly 1 second, 2:10.49 to 2:11.49. That marked a personal best by nearly 1 second for Castelluzo, but Taylor added over 3 seconds to her best time of 2:06.80, which stands as the All Comers record for 18 year old girls.

2 swimmers cracked the 2:00 mark in the boys 17-18 200 fly: Elijah Winnington and Matthew Temple. Temple was out half a second ahead of Winnington, 56.02 to 56.62, but Winnington came back over 1 second faster, finishing 1st in 1:58.93 to 1:59.58. Winnington added .13 seconds from his personal best, while Temple had a massive best time, dropping from his 2:02.10 best time going into the meet.

Michaela Ryan continued to have a great meet, posting a huge 7 second drop to win the girls 16 200 back by 2 seconds. Ryan came into the meet with a personal best of 2:20.59, then ended up winning in finals with a 2:13.77. In the boys 16 200 back, Stuart Swinburn nearly broke the Australian boys 16 Age Record, posting a 2:01.34. That time marked a drop of almost 1 second from his previous best of 2:02.25, and put him just .34 seconds off Mitch Larkin‘s Age Record of 2:01.00. Yanning Zhang took the boys 13 100 back with a 1:00.46, edging out Stone Ma (1:00.65). Zhang dropped over 1 second from his personal best of 1:01.74, while Ma dropped 3 full seconds from his previous best of 1:03.76.

Tara Kinder dropped 6.5 seconds to win the girls 14 200 breast, posting a final time of 2:30.52. Her last 3 50s were also incredibly consistent, coming in at 38.37, 38.34, and 38.49 respectively. TJ Chong Sue won another event after picking up a pair of wins yesterday, posting a 2:22.20 to win the boys 14 200 breast. That marks a 4 second drop for Chong Sue. Chelsea Hodges, who won the girls 16 100 breast on day 2 of the meet with a 1:09.13, split a 1:08.78 on the girls 18&under 4×100 medley relay, helping boost Southport Olympic to a 3 second win.

Jenna Forrester took almost 2 seconds off her best time of 2:03.02 to win the girls 14 200 free, posting a 2:01.32. That time puts her within 1 second of the girls 14 Age Record of 2:00.51. Samuel Short took the boys 14 200 free, dropping exactly 3.5 seconds to post a new lifetime best of 1:56.15. Abbey Webb beat out Eliza King in the girls 17-18 100 free, posting final times of 55.32 and 55.49 respectively. Elijah Winnington then came back to win the boys 17-18 100 free, nearly breaking 50 seconds for the first time with a 50.01.
