2x Ohio HS Record-holder Abby Hay Sends Verbal to Louisville

Mayfield Heights, Ohio’s Abby Hay has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Louisville for 2019-20.

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic careers at the University of Louisville! I fell in love with the team and coaches there and I can’t wait to officially be a Cardinal! LET’S GO CARDS!!!”

Hay is an enormously versatile swimmer who competes for Lake Erie Silver Dolphins. She spent the first two years of her prep career at Peters Township High School, where she was a three-time WPIAL Class 3A individual champion (200 IM and 500 free as a freshman in 2016; 500 free repeat victory in 2017). She then followed her club coach Todd Clark to the Hawken School in Gates Mills, Ohio, where she swam her junior season. That culminated in a pair of individual silver medals and two state relay records at the 2018 Ohio State Division 2 Swimming and Diving Championships. Hay went 2:01.26 in the 200 IM, 55.12 in the 100 fly, 23.91 on the butterfly leg of the record-breaking medley relay, and 51.15 on the third leg of the record-breaking 400 free relay.

Outside of high school swimming, Hay does it all. She has Winter Juniors cuts or better in breast, fly, and IM and isn’t far off in free and back. She placed 4th in the 400 IM, 5th in the 200 fly and 14th in the 200 IM at Winter Juniors East, going PBs in the 100/200 fly and 400 IM events. Hay capped off her short course season with a slew of new times at Lake Erie Swimming Senior SC Championships: 50/100/200 free, 100/200 back, and 100/200 breast.

Top SCY times:

  • 200 IM – 2:00.44
  • 400 IM – 4:12.60
  • 100 fly – 54.96
  • 200 fly – 1:58.86
  • 100 breast – 1:03.98
  • 200 breast – 2:17.00
  • 200 back – 2:02.53
