Chloe Hicks has announced via social media that she will be transferring to the University of Michigan in the fall to complete her junior and senior years of college.
“I am super excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at the University of Michigan! I’m so grateful for all of the opportunities that Virginia Tech has given me over the past 2 years and I can’t wait to start this new chapter of my life as a Wolverine! ?? #goblue”
Hicks swam her freshman and sophomore years at Virginia Tech. She came out of Centreville, Virginia, where she had been with Machine Aquatics and Westfield High School. At Virginia Tech she qualified for the 2018 NCAA Women’s Division I Championships in the 100 back and 200 back with respective PBs of 53.18 and 1:53.64. At ACCs she finished 8th in the 200 back, 20th in the 500 free, and 22nd in the 100 back. She anchored the H2Okies’ 800 free relay in 1:47.45 for a fifth-place finish.
Hicks’ 200 back time this past season would have been second only to senior Clara Smiddy’s had she been a Wolverine; she would have been fourth in the 100 back behind Smiddy, junior Taylor Garcia, and senior Gabby DeLoof. She’ll have a year of overlap with Garcia and two with Jacqui Schafer.
Top SCY times:
- 50 back – 26.55
- 100 back – 53.18
- 200 back – 1:53.64
- 100 free – 50.81
- 200 free – 1:49.73
- 500 free – 4:49.03

Unrelated, but based on the spreadsheet in the article there are 10 transfers out of Indian River. Whats up with that?
It’s because Indian River is a Junior Colllege.
Indian River is a 2 year Junior College.
I feel like this is probably satire, but just for the sake of posterity for anyone who might not get the joke, one of the primary functions of junior college athletics programs is to prepare students academically and athletically to transfer to a 4 year college. I’m sure Indian River’s AD is thrilled to see so many transfers.
Interestingly, IRSC is a four year institution now, but they still compete as a JUCO, so only 2 years of athletics. So , yes lots of transfers every year and happiness all around 🙂
Transferring due to new coach coming in?
definitely a possibility
Looks like she dropped over 6 seconds in the 200 Backstroke in less than two years with Ned and staff
