The “BA Early Bird Invitational” hosted by Boilermaker Aquatics from May 18th-20th at Purdue University will be taking the entry overflow from the TYR Pro Series meet in Indianapolis the same weekend. Now that the entry cap of 600 swimmers has been met, USA Swimming is directing any additional entries to the meet at Purdue.
There are “cap exempt” swimmers on the Pro Series circuit, who are swimmers that are allowed to enter Pro Series meets regardless of the entry cap. The criteria for cap exempt status is as follows:
- Any athlete ranked in the top 50 in the world in one or more individual events between 9/1/2016 and 8/31/2017 based on the FINA world rankings as of September 1, 2017 (Events are LCM, Olympic-distance only).
- Any 2017-18 U.S. National Team Member
- Any 2017-18 U.S. National Junior Team Member
- Any U.S. athlete on the 18&U World 100 List

Isn’t there another meet the same weekend in Atlanta? One of the comments posted on a recent article
stated that Missy Franklin would be competing in the Atlanta meet that weekend.
Atlanta Classic is May 18th-20th.
Purdue meet is a good one at a great facility. Some who may have already booked Indy flights would b able to still race college level competition
Why do they schedule big meets on the same weekend??
600 swimmers isn’t that big, but the demand to swim at IUPUI is.. Purdue is not terribly far from Indy, making it easier for local teams who missed out on entering to get into a (hopefully) quality meet and a quality facility on the same weekend.
