…American swimming superhero (and there’s no better way to describe his performance at the 2008 Olympics) Jason Lezak will throw out the first pitch tonight for the Los Angeles Dodgers, one of LA’s two professional baseball teams. This won’t be his first foray on the rubber; he’s done this at least twice before: once for the (then) Anaheim Angels, and once for the Seattle Mariners. Lezak has not committed to making a run at Rio, though he has been in the gym and the weight room doing some cross-training. He would be 40 by the time the 2016 Olympic rolled around…
…TCU has filled their vacant assistant coaching position by hiring Andy Waeger, the former head coach of Division II power Lockhaven University. Waeger was with the Lady Eagles for 7 seasons, including a peak in 2010 where they finished 16th in the country as the host team of that year’s NCAA Championships: the team’s highest finish ever. He also brings knowledge having served on the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Committee…
…South Carolina has hired former Arkansas Director of Operations Josh Morgan as an aquatics strength coach before next season. Morgan’s background is not specifically in swimming, but he developed those skills while working with a fairly successful Arkansas women’s program for the past few seasons. Though not the headline, Morgan is best known to the general sporting community as the fiance of Jessica Dorrell: the woman whom had an affair with Arkansas head football coach Bobby Petrino that lead to Petrino’s eventual firing. Dorrell is reportedly still with Morgan and will come with him to South Carolina. He will now look to refocus the conversation by helping lead the South Carolina swimming program to new heights, and hopefully closing the chapter of his life on the unfortunate situation in Arkansas…
Morgan is a strong man for being able to forgive. A stronger man than I would have been. Best of luck to the couple moving forward!
