Team USA brought home the gold in both the men’s and women’s 10K event at the 2012 Jr. Pan Pacific Championship. Becca Mann of Clearwater took the title for the women and David Heron of Mission Viejo topped the field for the men. It was a great race on an amazing course and the athletes were even accompanied by dolphins along the way. If there could ever be paradise in a 10,000 meter swim this was it. I think that open water swimming in the US has already taken that leap that Mike refers to. The last 3 years have been massive steps up. I think the idea that everyone who can do 800 or 1500 in the pool can be a good 10K swimmer is not correct (nor, obviously, it is something that all good 800 or 1500 swimmers would enjoy).
Becca Mann has done a lot of racing since Trials… and Florida is probably back in school already… If ever there was a kid who deserved a week to chill… 🙂
She is for real, that much is for sure.
IIRC, Mann is home-schooled, and could have been doing homework between sessions in Hawaii.
