Swimming Australia Names 19 to Short Course World Championships Team

Swimming Australia will send only 19 swimmers to December’s Short Course World Championships in Istanbul Turkey: a big decline from the 30 they sent to Dubai in 2010.
Plenty of names are missing from the roster, but the star (based on his performance at the qualifying meet this week) will be young Kenneth To. Standing around only 5’7, To has proven himself to be a big-meet swimmer, including breaking the 100 IM Australian Record last week. He missed the Olympic Team due to having his appendix removed shortly before Australia’s Trials.
He will now have the chance to swim at the World Championships this winter, which he will hope to use as a jumping-off point toward the more prestigious long course World Championships next year in Spain.
The other name to watch from this roster is Tommaso D’Orsogna. He outperformed just about everyone on Australia’s Olympic roster, but it was only in a pair of prelims relay 100 freestyle swims as both times he was benched for bigger names in finals. Now, D’Orsogna will get his chance to shine among a smaller lineup (but surely still with much focus from the Australian Swimming community).
Australian Team for World Short Course Championships, Istanbul, Turkey. December 12-16 2012
Angie Bainbridge, Ashley Delaney, Tommaso D’Orsogna, Sally Foster, Ellen Fullerton, Rachael Goh, Marieke Guehrer, Jordan Harrison, Robert Hurley, Grant Irvine, Sarah Katsoulis, Jarrod Killey, Matthew Levings, Grace Loh, Travis Mahoney, Samantha Marshall, Kyle Richardson, Brianna Throssell and Kenneth To.
