Rio Shirai is a competitive swimmer who represents Japan internationally.

2018 Pan Pacific Championships
Shirai swam on the 4×200 free relay in Tokyo at pan pacs, splitting 1:58.29 to help the squad place 4th overall and break a Japanese national record.
2018 Asian Games
In Jakarta, Shirai earned her first international medals by swimming as a part of Japan’s 4×100 and 4×200 free relays. In the 4×100, Shirai split 55.85 in the prelims to get Japan the first seed, which it would go onto hold in finals, earning Rio a gold medal for her efforts. In the 4×200, she anchored in Japan in 1:59.54 to touch 2nd behind China.
