Michigan, Michigan State Split Women’s Honors, Ohio State Men Sweep

Michigan and Michigan State earn first women’s swimming and diving weekly honors, while Ohio State swept the men’s accolades.

Michigan’s DeLoof, Cutshaw and Kwan, and Michigan State’s Ling garner first women’s awards, while Ohio State’s Ruslan Gaziev and Jacob Fielding took home the men’s awards for week 1.

Women’s Swimmer of the Week

Catie DeLoof, Michigan

Sr. – Grosse Pointe, Mich. – Grosse Pointe South

  • Recorded first-place finishes in the 50 freestyle (22.65), 100 freestyle (49.20) and 100 backstroke (54.58) to help take the team victory versus Miami University and Oakland last weekend
  • Posted NCAA “B” qualifying times in the 50 and 100 freestyle
  • Earns her first career Swimmer of the Week honor
  • Last Michigan Swimmer of the Week: Gabby DeLoof (Jan. 17, 2018)

Women’s Co-Diver of the Week

Christy Cutshaw, Michigan

So. – Durham, N.C. – Durham Academy

  • Earned a first-place finish on the 3-meter board (292.00) against Miami University and Oakland last weekend, qualifying her for the NCAA Zone Championships
  • Also secured a spot in NCAA Zones in the 1-meter with her 275.22 second-place finish
  • Earns her first Diver of the Week decoration
  • Last Michigan Diver of the Week: Nikki Canale (Oct. 4, 2017)

Women’s Co-Diver of the Week

Amanda Ling, Michigan State

So. – Southfield, Mich. – Walled Lake Central

  • Earned first place in the 3-meter and second in 1-meter against Iowa last weekend
  • Qualified for NCAA Zones in 1-meter (268.87) and 3-meter (292.8)
  • Garners her first Diver of the Week decoration
  • Last Michigan State Diver of the Week: Morgan Wellenzohn (Oct. 18, 2017)

Women’s Freshman of the Week

Victoria Kwan, Michigan
Richmond Hill, Ontario – Bill Crothers Secondary

  • Won the 200-buterfly (2:01.18) and 200-individual medley (2:04.04) in her collegiate debut against Miami University and Oakland last weekend
  • Anchored the Wolverines’ winning 400-yard freestyle relay
  • Earns her first career Freshman of the Week award
  • Last Michigan Freshman of the Week: Nikki Canale (Nov. 8, 2017)

Men’s Swimmer and Freshman of the Week

Ruslan Gaziev, Ohio State
Toronto, Ontario Won his first two individual races as a Buckeye with a 50-yard freestyle time of 20.19 and an NCAA B cut 100-yard freestyle time of 43.79
Contributed to a second-place 400-free relay finish with a 43.40 split as the leadoff leg and helped the Buckeye men to a 156-144 victory over Alabama for the team’s second-straight win against the Crimson Tide
Earns his first career Swimmer of the Week honor

Men’s Diver of the Week

Jacob Fielding, Ohio State
Fr. – Los Angeles, Calif. In his first meet as a Buckeye, won the 1-meter event with a score of 363.83 and placed second on the 3-meter board with a score of 413.78
Recorded NCAA zone-qualifying marks in both events
Earns his first Diver of the Week award
