In what proved to be one of the fastest 1500 freestyle heats in history, 22-year-old Henrik Christiansen became the 9th fastest performer of all-time and set a new Norwegian Record in the process.

Christiansen finished in a time of 14:19.39, lowering his National Record of 14:21.53 set on the FINA World Cup last year, and moves up one spot in the all-time rankings to 9th. He previously sat in 10th with his 14:21.53, but moves past Germany’s Jan Wolfgarten (14:20.44) with this swim.

He won bronze in the race behind Mykhailo Romanchuk (14:09.14) and Gregorio Paltrinieri (14:09.87), as the two of them clocked the 2nd and 3rd fastest swims in history. Only Paltrinieri’s world record of 14:08.06 from 2015 is faster.

That was the second medal for the Norwegian after also winning silver in the 400 freestyle, and he also has five medals thus far in his career from the European Championships. He has won silver at the last two LC Championships in the 400 free, and has three bronzes from the SC Champs, including two in the 1500 in both 2015 and 2017.
