Kayla Sanchez of HPC – Ontario dominated the B final with a 1:59.79, a time that would’ve been second this morning only to Ledecky.
Kayla Sanchez carried that momentum into this race. She broke up what could’ve been an all-American podium, going 28.13 for 2nd place behind Olivia Smoliga. Team Elite teammates Kathleen Baker and Ali Deloof went 28.37 and 28.38, respectively.
Two questions: 1) How tall is she? 2) is she NCAA-eligible?
If you won’t then who will?
Managing the failure to meet personal expectations (and I mean personal but not somebody else’s one) is another story, but lowering your targets by doubting your personal abilities in order not to get hurt emotionally will not serve you well.
There’s a major difference between not piling expectations on yourself and having low expectations of yourself. They’re not the same thing. She’s not setting low expectations for herself. She’s simply refusing to pile unnecessary expectations onto her shoulders, a perfectly reasonable stance to take.
“I try to step back from having any expectations. I focus on me and my own race strategy because I know that’s the only thing I can control.”
-Nathan Adrian
“Having an expectation for a result is meaningless. It can only work against you.”
-Anthony Ervin
Good quotes, but you can definitely find something quite an opposite from swimmers that are as great as Adrian and Anthony.
Silly
That’s a dumb way to look at it.
Is it the only thing you can say? It is not a simple topic. I would expect something more sophisticated from the expert like you on the very complex and important psychological issue of how swimmers should motivate themselves.
Oh, I’m sorry. I completely forgot that ‘wtf’ is the best that can come out from your mouth. In such case i’m taking my words back: don’t say anything. There are children in the room.
Why continue to dig yourself further into this hole?
go troll another sport Yozhik….
