The Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) swim team grabbed their passports and took a trip down to the country of Trinidad and Tobago. The team trained at the National Aquatic Center, which opened in October 2016.
Senior Jenna Vandervort put together a video highlighting the trip, which took place from December 28th-January 6th.

In 2018, the WPI team placed 3rd (men) and 4th (women) at the NEWMAC championships. Yet, the team has propelled to a big start to 2019 competition.
The women began their 2019 meet season with a win against Stevens on January 12th. A day later, the team fell to Franklin & Marshall but defeated Susquehanna at the tri-meet. At another tri-meet on January 16th, the WPI women defeated UMass Dartmouth but fell to Wheaton (MA).
The WPI men started their 2019 season with 5 dual meet wins, taking down Stevens, Franklin & Marshall, Susquehanna, UMass Dartmouth, and Wheaton (MA).
The team’s efforts allowed head coach Paul Bennett to now hold the all-time swimming and diving wins, picking up his 113th career win after the men and women’s 8 wins at the start of 2019.
WPI returns to the pool January 23rd, hosting Clark.

it’s a cool experience and all i guess, but why is a d3 team going out of the country for training trip???
Why would any team go out of the country for a training trip? A schools division makes no impact on the educational experience you can offer Student Athletes by traveling abroad and experiencing a new country and culture. I would actually propose as a Division III school we owe our athletes the most from the educational experience as they each only compete for the love of the sport.
