This summer, Rachel made the Olympic Team in the 100 meter backstroke while representing Aquajets Swim Team in Minnesota, coached by Kate Lundsten and staff. At the Olympics, she earned a gold medal as a member of the 4×100 medley relay, and placed 11th in the 100 meter backstroke.

This past weekend, she put on quite a show winning all of her events at the dual meets at Cal Berkeley. She is much more versatile than people might think. She can do all of the strokes well. She won 200 IM, as well as 100 fly, 100 back, and 100 free. Additionally, I remember seeing her split close to a 27.0 in breast stroke for her high school team in Eden Prairie, Minnesota on the 4×50 medley relay! With this much versatility and talent, it will be fun to watch her NCAA career unfold.

In this interview, she shares her life at Cal, living in the dorms, going up to the BIG “C” on the hill, and her adjustment to a totally new environment – new training, school, and let’s not forget that warm sunshine (especially coming from Minnesota)!

Enjoy that sunshine, Rachel!
