Boys Meet

Led by two wins from senior Braxten Pierce, Grand County High School won the boys 3A title.

Pierce won the 200 free in 1:47.48 and the 100 fly in 54.30. Both wins came in blowouts of the field. Pierce also split 22.3 on the 200 free relay and led off the 400 free relay in 49.86.

Emery came up just eight points short, but did win four events overall. Senior Keldan Guymon was the only four-event winner in the state. He took home the 200 IM in 2:03.35 and the 100 breast in 59.70 – both races were wins by large margins. Surrounding that breaststroke swim, Guymon also anchored the winning 200 free relay in 21.41 (Emery went 1:33.54) and did the same in the 400 free relay (Guymon was 49.02 on the anchor spot; Emery won in 3:28.59). That meant Guymon swam and won three of the last four races in a furious comeback effort for Emery.

The other double individual winner was Telos Academy’s Ryan Gamble (22.46 in the 50 free, 49.12 in the 100 free, plus the key 21.98 split on the winning medley relay). Other event winners were American Leadership Academy’s Patrick Bless in the 500 free (5:08.88) and Grantsville junior Zane Thomas in the 100 back (57.65).

Girls Meet

Carbon High School pulled off a thrilling one-point win over Rowland Hall for the girls 3A title despite Rowland winning the final relay and Carbon taking just fourth.

The girls of Carbon won on depth, without winning a single event. Their highest finishes as a team were a crowd of third-places: the 200 medley relay, Morgan Swasey in the 50 free (26.14) and 100 back (1:05.47), Tyrca Jaramillo in the 100 breast (1:13.31) plus the 200 free relay.

Rowland Hall won both free relays and got two individual wins from Grace Smith. Smith took home the 100 breast (1:09.51) and 200 IM (2:12.65) for Rowland Hall.

The meet was dominated by four dual individual winners. Smith was one – joining her were Beaver High’s Rachel McMaster (2:02.45 in the 200 free, 55.69 in the 100 free), Millard High senior Drew Roper (24.63 in the 50 free, 58.44 in the 100 back) and Grantsville High sophomore Hadlee Begay (59.08 in the 100 fly, 5:18.11 in the 500 free).
