Girls Meet

Class 6A state records fell in six of eleven events on the girls side, including three to American Fork sophomore Allie Hill.

Hill led American fork to a runaway team win by almost 100 points. Hill herself won the 200 free and 500 free. In the 200, she was 1:57.09, breaking the class 6A record in both prelims and finals. In the 500 free, she was 5:18.00, breaking the state record with a 5:17.04 out of prelims.

Hill also anchored the record-setting 200 free relay directly after that 500. She was 25.28 on the anchor leg as the team of Anelyn Dean, Amelia Edwards, Talia Thomas and Hill went 1:42.71. Dean, Edwards, Sara Edwards and Hill also won the 400 free relay in 3:44.94.

Kearns senior Lily Plaudis set two individual state records, too. She put up a field-best 28.20 breaststroke split to power Kearns to a 200 medley title. She would go on to win the 200 IM in 2:06.34 and the 100 breast in 1:03.01.

Davis freshman Lauryn Hall was the exciting youngster of the meet, winning the 50 free in 24.91 and the 100 free in 55.34. In the 50, both Hall and runner-up Abby Frazier were under the old state record.

Other event winners were Syracuse senior Samantha Nelson (59.36 in the 100 fly and just .07 off a 6A state record) and Syracuse junior LynDea Turner (1:01.52 in the 100 back).

Boys Meet

Four records fell on the boys side, including the only two overall Utah state records of the meet.

Lone Peak junior Jordan Tiffany crushed his two individual races. He was 1:48.75 in the 200 IM, smashing his own 6A state record (1:51.85) and the overall state record (1:51.74 set by future BYU standout Jake Taylor in the supersuit era of 2009). Tiffany returned to go 47.74 in the 100 fly, breaking 6A and overall state marks there as well.

Tiffany had a big-league backstroke split of 22.76 on the 200 medley relay, powering Lone Peak to a win in 1:37.60. He capped off his day going 46.27 as the leadoff man on the 400 free relay, which Lone Peak won in 3:14.00.

Lone Peak won the state title in a landslide, also getting a 100 breast victory from junior Josh Griener (1:01.12).

The other two state records were 6A marks. Westlake senior Greg Simonsen was 21.03 in the 50 free to break his own 6A state record and come within four tenths of the overall state record of 20.60 that has stood, incredibly, since 1997. (Simonsen was also second to Tiffany in the 100 fly, going 49.76).

Pleasant Grove senior Devin Bunnell won two races and set a state 6A record in the 500 free. He was 4:37.74 in that race and 1:40.40 to win the 200 free.

Other event winners were Simonsen and Westlake in the 200 free relay (1:28.98 with a 20.99 anchor from Simonsen), Syracuse freshman Kanyon Page in the 100 back (53.59) and Davis senior Tom Mi in the 100 free (48.41).
