SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Westmont head coach Jill Jones-Lin has announced the signing of Morgan Bienias to the women’s swimming team. Bienias, who swims with the Circle City Aquatics in Corona and is captain of the Santiago High School team, will join Emma Leathers, Gaby Rego and Bailey Lemmon on next year’s inaugural Warrior team.
“In addition to her leadership skills, Morgan’s breadth of events is going to help the team tremendously,” said Jones-Lin. “Her best events include mid-distance freestyle and backstroke. She has a good chance of qualifying for and potentially scoring at nationals in multiple events.”
At Santiago, Bienias was the Big VIII League champion in the 500 yard freestyle and finished second in the 200 yard free style. She qualified for the CIF Division II championships in both races.
“I am looking forward to being a part of a new swim program and helping to build its foundation,” said Bienias. “The support system that Westmont provides from being a tight knit community was very appealing to me. I am excited about competing at a high level with excellent competition and qualifying for the championship meet.”
Bienias has posted a best short course time in the 200 free style of 1:57.30 and 5:16.18 in the 500 free. In the 100 backstroke, her best time is 1:02.54 with a 200 back time of 2:15.01.
“I look forward to coaching Morgan and utilizing her skills in leadership and swimming to help us start this program out strong.”
