Diane Hicks-Hughes Takes Seat as First Female NISCA President

Diane Hicks-Hughes has officially taken over the office as president of the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches’ Association (NISCA), which makes her the first female to ever hold that position.

Elected in March of 2017, Hicks-Hughes has spent the last 2 years as president-elect – the standard term for the organization before promoting new electees to president. Hicks takes over the role from International Swimming Hall of Fame member Mark Onstott.

Hicks-Hughes is the former head coach at Lansing High in New York, where she has been the head coach for 39 years. In that period, she has over 370 career wins, and her teams have won 23 IAC conference titles and 15 section titles.

From 2010-2014, she served as the Chairperson for the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Swimming & Diving Rules Committee. She’s also served as the New York State Public High School Association girls’ swimming & diving coordinator.

NISCA is a professional organization that supports high school coaches of aquatic sports in the United States. That includes managing the high school All-America system, National Dual Meet Rankings, and National High School Records, among other programs.

Hicks-Hughes’ first official day on the job was March 23rd. Tim Sirois, the coach of the boys’ and girls’ teams at Highland Park High School in suburban Chicago, becomes the new president elect and will take over the position after Hicks-Hughes serves her term.
