On the heels of Matthew Wilson’s monster 2:07.16 swim in the men’s 200m breaststroke to become the 4th fastest performer of all-time, 2016 Olympic champion Kyle Chalmers produced something special in the men’s 100m freestyle tonight.
Competing at his home pool on night 2 of the Australian National Championships, 20-year-old Chalmers cranked out an unbelievable 100m freestyle time of 47.48, beating his gold medal-winning time from the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Chalmers’ time from Rio was 47.58, so he was faster by a tenth this evening.
Tonight the Marion swimmer split 23.08/24.40 to crush the field, with Cameron McEvoy hitting the wall well over half a second later in 49.07.
For Chalmers, his time represents the fastest in the world by a long shot, maintaining his post as the top dog in the world with his 2nd sub-48 second time of the year. His previous top mark of the season was the 47.89 produced at the NSW Championships.

Chalmers’ 47.48 outing this evening in South Australia now checks the lizard king and aspiring AFL player in as the 11th fastest performer of all-time, relegating American icon Michael Phelps to slot #12.

King Kyle said after race that he felt lethargic and heavy in the water because he had no taper, and he didn’t expect this result at all.
Great time, but honestly I would not count on australians putting out fast times when they matter. Remember when McEvoy put out the fastest time of 47.04 before the rio games and everyone was saying he would win but ultimately let us down, I don’t know about chalmers because he surprised us, and we have not really seen him in LCM except Pan Pacs. But the australians need to work on siwmming fast when it matters. so at this point my bet is still on dressel beating out chalmers at the world champs.
How many times has dressel come close to that 47.17 since?
Dressel had an accident last year before Pan Pacs- so there was no chance he was swimmng close to that 47.17 – Where were you last year ? watching baseball ? LOL

Yes King Kyle may not be able to swim well when it matters. He only won gold at Rio Olympics and beat Dressel at last year’s Pan Pacs.
I think you’re getting Chalmers confused with McEvoy and Magnussen because Chalmers has been clutch every single time it’s mattered…
I mean Magnussen was back to back World Champ in 11′ and 13′. That’s not too shabby. In London he got beaten by Adrian who was in the shape of his life. He has also never been close to that 47.5 since.

More Aussies have a choking problem than other countries. But this guy’s not one of them.
Doesn’t seem like we’re gonna see peak McEvoy again. Nice to see Titmus do a PB leading off the 4×100 club relay dropping a second down to 44.20.
This makes me so sad. I have been rooting for him for years. Fastest textile and definitely the nicest swim to date I have ever seen.
Wow nice anchor split by Shayna Jack (52.67) which is the first time she has split that fast in a relay (sub 53) so correct me if I’m wrong .. Cate split “only” 52.48 in comparison which is slower than her individual winning time
It’d be great if Bronte regains form for the worlds and they can push that relay record down under 3.30

St Peters with no Campbells in their team just knocked out a 3.36 4x100m relay,,,would have been just behind Sweden at the last Olympics! Impressive!
Campbells were in the race and finished second to st peters western in qld they swim for knoxx nsw now
Knox Pymble had the 2 Campbell’s. It was St Peters Western with Titmus and Jack that did 3.36. Watch out for young Meg Harris in the future too – she was also on the St Peters team and split 54.47 .

A lot of interesting things Down Under, great to see towards Worlds in Korea (Fukuoka2001 was very successful for Australian Swimming, who knows that Gwangju2019 will be one of the best Worlds in the last decade?).
1) A Womens 400 free relay almost unbeatable: 6 women under 54″, with McKeon and Jack super, at their PBs, beyond Cate Campbell. If Bronte will be healthy for swimming trials (good that they are in June) and Worlds, what a WR they could swim at Worlds!

Very good summary, would like to add Chalmers 100 & Winnintons 400 looks good for the 200 free & relay when you add Horton as well as Cartwright, TFH Graham & McEvoy
