Alyssa Cahill Gives Commitment to D-III Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Alyssa Cahill has given her verbal commitment for the 2019 signing class to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (NY) of the Liberty League. Cahill is a backstroke-freestyle specialist and swims club for the Somerset Valley YMCA of the New Jersey LSC. She will join the Lady Engineers and head coach Shannon O’Brien who will be at the helm for her 23rd season this fall. Notably, the high school senior helped lead Bridgewater-Raritan High School to a fourth-straight New Jersey Public A girls state title.

“I am so excited to announce my commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at Rensselaer! I fell in love with the team and the school immediately. I’m so excited to attend! Go engineers!!”

Cahill will be a major weapon once she steps on campus for the Lady Engineers who finished 3rd place at the 2019 Liberty League Conference Championship in February. Her best time in the 200 backstroke (2:04.95) would have earned a 5th place conference meet finish and would have been less than 1.5 seconds from earning a consolations spot at the D-III national championship. With the graduation of Amanda Wang, Cahill looks to join current freshman Megan Beaulieu as the conference’s strongest duo in the event.

Best Times (SCY):

  • 50 Freestyle: 24.85
  • 100 Freestyle: 53.56
  • 200 Freestyle: 1:55.81
  • 100 Backstroke: 58.79
  • 200 Backstroke: 2:04.95 (2019 Futures)

Cahill will, also, be a leading contender for relay spots as a freshman for RPI. Her best time in the 200 freestyle would have been the second strongest leg for the Lady Engineers’ 800 freestyle relay which won the conference championship. In both the 200- and 400 freestyle relay, her best time would have been fourth fastest, respectively. In the medley relay, she will be in a tough battle with Beaulieu for the backstroke leg as the gap between them in the shorter distances are more prevalent.
