On the heels of having made her first senior international roster for Italy by qualifying for next month’s World Championships, 14-year-old Benedetta Pilato has lowered her own National Junior Record in the women’s 50m breast.
While competing on day 1 of the Trio A Volo Meet in Rome, Pilato cracked a time of 30.42 to take gold in the event, slicing .19 off of the Junior Record of 30.61 she produced at the Italian National Championships for silver this past April.
Pilato’s time now checks-in as the 4th fastest in the world this season, sitting ahead of Italian teammate Martina Carraro.

Pilato’s best time in the 100 in long course is a 1:08.88 from the Italian National Championships.

Looks like she is sitting ‘Ahead of Italian Teammate Martina Carraro” not behind her.
And at #2 into the all-time Italian performers list of 50 breastroke, with her 30.42 obtained in a heat; Pilato will have the final of 50 breast on Saturday.
After this heat Benedetta Pilato had an interview with Cristina Chiuso, several times Italian Champ in the 50 free, and she said surprised by her time, considering she’s training for EuroJuniors (early July in Kazan) which are her main target in this season. She will compete also at Worlds in Gwangju in late July to get experience in racing at absolute level, she said.

Indeed, she swims like a fish. Wow that’s quick.
Why is there always someone who says this whenever a good swim happens. People said it about Phelps,Murphy,king,Peirsol. And a whole heap of others. Why can’t we just be happy for a swimmer and give them the benefit of the doubt. Until proven otherwise
I find it interesting that she is the best at the 50 right now. Would love to see race video of her stroke. She could certainly make their relay more competitive if she keeps dropping.
