Watch Caeleb Dressel Swim 47.9 100 Free (Race Video)

2019 MISSION VIEJO SWIM MEET OF CHAMPIONS

Reported by Braden Keith.

To follow up his morning swim of 47.9, Dressel won the 100 free tonight with yet another 47.9 100m free. Caeleb Dressel swam a 47.97 in the men’s 100 free on Friday morning in prelims at the 2019 Fran Crippen Memorial Swim Meet of Champions. This continues a trend for Dressel this season of being much faster in-season than we’ve seen in previous years. At his last meet, the Atlanta Classic, he was 48.45 in prelims and 47.86 in finals. That prelims swim was the famous 24.1/24.3 nearly-negative split. Coming into this season, his fastest in-season swim was a 48.74 done in June of 2016, a few weeks before the Olympic Trials. Now he’s been under 48 three times this season before the World Championships.

It seems that CD used to different race plans to swim the same time. I think that once he is shaved and tapered he will be able to bring it home faster after going out in a 22.7ish

he was out in 22.3 when he went 47.1. I think he’s looking to be out that fast again once he has easy speed and try to bring it back around 24.5. That would not only produce an insane time but would make it too difficult to run him down on the back end (unless chalmers can pull a 23.8 2nd 50)

This is what Fabrice Pellerin did with the late Camille Muffat in the 400 free to build her confidence before she won gold in London. She swam it going out like a train, negative splitting it, even splitting it, going out super slow the first 200, and then when she got to London, no one had any idea how she would actually swim the race, so if they were focused on her strategy or paying her too much attention, they had already lost the race.

47.90? Cool. Here’s some stats:
2018 in-season best: probably 48.96 from Santa Clara PSS (June 8th)
2017 in-season best: probably 49.26 from some Arena PSS stop (June 1st)

I really like the way he accelerates into the wall the last 10 or so meters.

oh yes , thats how he got to his 49.8 100 fly ….his 200 free /fly training helps with that most probably .

He just decelerates less. No one’s accelerating at that point. Even at a 50, it’s deceleration.

If their velocities are changing, then they are accelerating. Since their velocities are decreasing, their accelerations are negative.

Anyone know what the world-leading times were in the leadup to the ‘09 world champs?

2018 was a good year to have an off year. No major championships. And he still managed to make the team.
You can’t be at 200% each year if you want a successful long career.
Dressel is gonna be a monster at next worlds.

Hey Bobo, all that sprint breastroke Dressel did in the baby pool really cratered his career, didn’t it?

I dont know who will win at Worlds this year, but it will sure be really fun seeing Dressel 0.8s ahead of Kyle at the 50m mark and then Kyle chasing him like a mad man

that will likely happen …unless Troy & Dressel have a second 50 plan in progressive training mode .

That wasn’t the 47.48 at nationals (not the trials).

You don’t think he was tapered at Nationals. If he wasn’t then he just showed his taper doesn’t drop much time for him.

47.48 with no taper but a 47.3 with a taper. Either his taper (or rest) isn’t very good or the 47.3 was a bad race for him. I don’t think any swimmer on the planet is good enough to go under 47.5 without rest (or a full taper)

Unless Dressel can’t grow hair on his legs, he’s mighty ready for this meet as well. So him and Chalmers are on equal footing going to Worlds, should be a good race!
