The Greensboro Futures meet kicked off tonight with the women’s 800 free, men’s 1500 free, and both the men’s and women’s 800 free relays.

Madison Murtagh, a rising Penn State sophomore, kicked off the meet by winning the women’s 800 free. Martagh clocked an 8:55.06, narrowly beating out runner-up Stella Grace Watts of Area Tallahassee Aquatic Club (8:55:86), who swam in the previous heat. Murtagh took the race out pretty aggressively, flipping at 4:23.98 at the 400 mark. She then averaged 1:07-highs per 100 on the back half of the race. Murtagh’s personal best is 8:54.95 from 2017 Futures. For Watts, the time marked a more than 13 second drop from her previous personal best of 9:09.10.

16-year-old Lance Norris of Tac Titans took the men’s 1500 with a huge best time of 15:45.60. Norris knocked just over 10 seconds off his personal best of 15:56.77, which he had swum at the end of June this year. Norris swam a very consistent race, splitting mid-1:03 100s the whole way through, except for one 1:04.0 and one 1:02.9 towards the end of the race. Fellow 16-year-old Grant Davis (Chattahoochee Gold Swim Club) came in 2nd, touching in 15:47.81. Davis had a monstrous drop, taking off a whopping 47 seconds from his previous best of 16:35.07, which he had swum last Summer.

The Sarasota Sharks pulled out a victory in the women’s 800 free relay, clocking an 8:28.63. On an interesting note, the team tied their entry time. Christina Cianciolo led off in 2:10.31, followed by Addison Sauickie (2:06.80), Savannah Barr (2:03.68), and Mercedes Traba (2:07.84). Sarasota Tsunami Swim Team won the men’s 800 free relay. Rene Strezenicky Franko led the squad off in 1:54.69, followed by Ian Brann in 1:57.48, Jason Brzozowski in 1:56.88, and Dimiter Zafirov in 1:54.67, for a final time of 7:43.72.
