Luke Greenbank is a competitive swimmer who represents Great Britain and England internationally. He is a 2020 Olympian and Olympic medalist.
2015 World Junior Championships (Singapore)
Greenbank earned a bronze medal in the 100 back (54.81), finishing behind Romania’s Robert Glinta (54.30) and American Michael Taylor (54.64).
2018 Commonwealth Games (Gold Coast, Australia)
Greenbank picked up a silver medal with the 4×100 medley relay team, swimming a 54.61 on the leadoff leg. Adam Peaty (57.64), James Guy (50.95) and Ben Proud (47.93) rounded out the lineup.
2019 World Championships (Gwangju, South Korea)
Greenbank earned a bronze medal in the 200 back (1:55.85), finishing behind Russia’s Evgeny Rylov (1:53.40) and American Ryan Murphy (1:54.12).
He also was part of the British 4×100 medley relay team, which won gold in a European record time of 3:28.10. Greenbank swam a 53.95 on the leadoff leg, followed by Adam Peaty (57.20), James Guy (50.81) and Duncan Scott (46.14).
The 3:28.10 snapped the previous European standard of 3:28.58 set by the German team of Helge Meeuw, Hendrik Feldwehr, Benjamin Starke and Paul Biedermann at the 2009 Championships in Rome.
2021 European Championships (Budapest, Hungary)
Greenbank earned silver in the 200 back final (1:54.67) in Budapest, dropping his PB in semi-finals with a 1:54.43. He also helped Team Great Britain to a gold in the 400 medley relay with a European record of 3:28.59.
2020 Olympic Games
Greenbank kept his momentum rolling into the Tokyo Games in the 200 back. In the final, he swam a strong race, touching for 3rd in 1:54.72 to earn his first Olympic medal, a bronze. He also swam the 100 back individually, where he tied for 17th in prelims, missing the semi-finals by .02.
Greenbank finished his Games in the 400 medley relay, where he led-off for Great Britain in 53.63 to help them to a 2nd place finish, securing silver.
2022 World Championships
Greenbank kept his international medal streak alive, winning silver in the 200 backstroke in Budapest behind Ryan Murphy, clocking 1:55.16.
Greenbank also swam in the 100 back, placing 14th in the semis in 53.99.
