Ian Grum Breaks Meet Record in 200 Back

With a lot of the bigger names competing at last week’s Senior Nationals and then heading to the Junior World Championships in a few weeks, this meet hasn’t been breaking the record-breaking bonanza we sometimes see, but tonight Ian Grum of Dyanmo Swim Club nipped a meet record while winning the A-final of the 200 back.

Grum, who’s committed to the Georgia Bulldogs for the upcoming season, has been on a roll over the past few months. Coming into this long course season, his lifetime best stood at 2:oo.74, from last Georgia Bulldog Grand Slam meet. He shaved two-tenths off that mark in May at the Mel Zajac meet, dropped almost another second at this year’s Bulldog Grand Slam Meet (1:59.67), and then went 1:59.51 at Senior Nationals.

Sticking around in Palo Alto seems to have worked for Grum, as he dropped another second tonight, winning with a time of 1:58.59. That mark broke the meet record of 1:58.83, set by Alex Katz back in 2013.

Grum followed up his victory in the 200 back with another one in the 400 IM, along with another victory as part of Dynamo’s NAG record-breaking 400 free relay.
