Tonight’s finals will include the 400 freestyle, 100 butterfly, and the men’s 800 freestyle relay, which will swim four heats in a timed final.

Day 3 Finals Events:

• Women’s 400 Freestyle – Finals
• Men’s 400 Freestyle – Finals
• Women’s 100 Butterfly – Finals
• Men’s 100 Butterfly – Finals
• Men’s 800 Freestyle Relay – Timed Finals

Tonight’s session will consist of only 16 heats and should be finished within two hours. The session will begin with the award ceremonies for last night’s 4 x 100 freestyle relays.

Day 3 Morning Storylines to Watch:

• Ellie Marquardt might seem like an obvious medal contender as she is the third seed going into the finals of the women’s 400 freestyle, but what sets her apart is her ability to make up ground and  charge at the end of a race. At the 2019 Charlotte Ultra, Marquardt posted her current lifetime best in the 400 freestyle, a 4:15.60. Marquardt won the race in Charlotte, despite contending with various NCAA qualifiers, and put up a 4th 100 split that was faster than both her 2nd and 3rd 100 splits in the race, finishing in a 1:03.27. Marquardt may not need that level of speed this morning to qualify for, but is likely to have one of the strongest back halves in the field.
• The race is on to see who can be the first to break 1:00 in the finals of the women’s 100 butterfly tonight. Four swimmers–Tristen Ulett, Rachel Klinker, Megan Pulley, and Lucy Bell–were all at 1:00 this morning, and Klinker has been 59.9 before, so there is a great chance multiple swimmers will be under the 1:00 barrier in finals.
• 9 swimmers went 54 in the prelims of the men’s 100 fly today, but no one broke into 53-second territory. Ethan Hu, the top seed going into finals, boasts a best time of 53.1, so if he’s on his game, he could also challenge the 52-second barrier.
• Big team points are on the line in the men’s 800 freestyle relay. Dynamo won the 4 x 100 last night, setting a new meet record in the process, and they’ll be in the mix tonight. SwimMAC and the Mason Manta Rays, as well as the Sierra Marlins and American Energy have fielded tough teams that could also take the title.
