Freestyler Morgan Baker Commits to Nebraska-Omaha for 2020 Season

Six-time Nebraska high school state freestyle finalist Morgan Baker will be keeping her talents in state. The Hastings, Nebraska, native committed to head east and swim collegiately for Division I school the University of Nebraska-Omaha beginning in the fall of 2020.

“I’m super excited to announce my verbal commit to further my academic and swimming career at the University of Nebraska-Omaha,” Baker said. “I am beyond grateful for my coaches, friends, and family who have helped and supported me along the way. I can’t wait to be a part of this incredible team. Go Mavs‼️”

Baker was a finalist in the 100 free and 50 free at the 2019 Nebraska School Activities Association State Championships in February, finishing fourth in the 100 (53.55) and fifth in the 50 (24.41). Baker also was part of Hastings High School’s 14th place 200 free relay and 15th place 400 free relay teams.

As a sophomore in 2018, Baker was sixth in the both the 50 free (24.69) and 100 free (53.86) at state. She also swam on Hastings’ 11th place 400 free relay.

As a freshman, Baker was seventh in the 50 free (24.51) and 100 free (53.24) at the NSAA state meet. She also was a member of the 15th place 400 free relay and 16th place 200 free relay.

Baker also competes with the Grand Island YMCA Quicksilver and Greater Nebraska Swim Team (North Platte, Nebraska).

Top Times

  • 50 Free – 24.41
  • 100 Free – 53.24

Baker’s top 50 free time would have ranked fifth on the Nebraska-Omaha roster behind senior Kirsten Kracke (23.43), junior Rachel Morrow (23.76), senior Madi Ewald (23.79) and junior Anna Capoun (24.33).

Her best 100 free clocking would have ranked fourth on the Mavericks’ roster behind Morrow (50.98), Kracke (51.36) and Ewald (52.21).
