The 7th FINA World Junior Championships continues with the second finals session of the meet. Tonight, not one but eight new World Junior champions will be crowned along with the mixed 4×100 medley relay. Here’s the stacked event line-up for the Wednesday finals session.

Day 2 Finals Event Line-Up:

We are still keeping an eye on 14-year-old Italian record holder Benedetta Pilato, who will be aiming to be crowned World Junior champion in the 50 breast after claiming senior World runner-up a few weeks ago. Pilato swam to the top with a 30.39, and her lifetime best of 29.98 easily scares the championship record and ratified world junior record of 29.86.

The men’s 100 back is expected to have an exciting dual between newly-minted championship record-holder Italian Thomas Ceccon and Russian Nikolay Zuev, who came in just 0.01s off Ceccon’s record. Also on record watch is Aussie Lani Pallister, whose 800 free seed time of 8:25.66 comes in just 0.44s behind the 2017 championship record.

Here’s more storylines to watch on the second finals session:

  • Americans Carson Foster and Luca Urlando lead the men’s 200 free final. Yet the rising teens will be featured in second swims this evening. Foster comes in as the top seed in the 200 IM while Urlando will contest in the men’s 100 fly semifinals, led by Bulgarian national record-breaker Josif Miladinov.
  • The next generation of American women in the 200 fly will be featured tonight as 15-year-old Charlotte Hook leads the event as the lone sub-2:10 swimmer from the heats. US national runner-up Lillie Nordmann will need to take down Hungarian Blanka Berecz and Aussie Elizabeth Dekkers.
  • Another American duo, Josh Matheny and Kevin Houseman, led the men’s 100 breast ahead of Canada’s Gabe Mastromatteo, who all will look to break the 1:00 barrier.
  • The women’s 100 back features sub-1:00 swimmer Canada’s Jade Hannah, who will have to fend off American Claire Curzan and Aussie Mollie O’Callaghan for the title.
  • Leading the women’s 100 free semifinals are Aussie Meg Harris and American Gretchen Walsh, who were the only sub-55 swimmers of the morning heats.
