South African distance specialist Josh Dannhauser has entered the NCAA transfer portal. He competed with Auburn at the 2018 and 2019 NCAA Championships.

Dannhauser joined Auburn halfway through the 2018-19 season, making their NCAA roster in his first semester in yards. At the 2018 NCAA Champs as a freshman, he placed 45th in the 500 free (4:22.31) and 39th in the mile (15:07.88). He made a big jump this past season, improving to a 27th-place finish in the 500 (4:16.78) and a 25th-place finish in the mile (14:55.94).
He also finished top 8 in the 500 free as a sophomore and was top 9 in the mile both in 2018 and 2019 at the SEC Championships.
Shortly after the 2019 NCAA Champs, Dannhauser raced at the 2019 South African National Championships where he won the 800m free (8:03.06) and mile (15:24.55). This past summer, he was part of Team South Africa at the 2019 World University Games, where he placed in the top 20 in the 400, 800, and 1500 free events.
Last year, it took a 4:14-low to make the 500 free B-final and a 14:46-low to score top 16 in the mile at NCAAs. Dannhauser is not far off of those marks, and another year of improvement could see him entering NCAA scoring range with whatever team he lands at next.
Could be valuable to the ACCs to help with a rebuild somewhere.
