BATON ROUGE, La.  – The Purple Team topped the Gold Team 48-40 in the annual Purple vs. Gold Intrasquad Saturday at the LSU Natatorium.

IN THE POOL

The meet started off with the team of Cassie Kalisz, Olivia Paskulin, Olivia Taylor, and Emily Van De Wiele winning the 200-Yard Medley Relay. The men’s team of Matt Klotz, Cameron Karkoska, Michael Petro, and Lewis Clough followed suit.

Luca Pfyffer won twice as the junior won the 100 and 200-Yard Breaststroke with times of 57.58 and 2:07.36. Freshman Jolee Liles touched the wall first in both the 500-Yard Freestyle and the 200-Yard Butterfly with times of 4:55.65 and 2:03.52.

Helen Grossman and Lewis Clough also claimed two wins as Grossman won the 100-Yard Freestyle and the 100-Yard Butterfly with a time of 54.81. Clough came out victorious in the 100-Yard Butterfly with a time of 48.42 and the 200-Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:39.40.

“From what we wanted out of the meet, I think I saw all of the pieces I wanted to see,” said LSU head swim coach Dave Geyer. “We knew we had some talent and potential in this freshman class and to see them step up in early September and put down some times that are going to be really competitive in dual meets is really positive.”

A total of six freshman won Saturday morning. Highlighted by Liles and her two wins, David Boylan, Brooks Curry, Katarina Milutinovich, Niamh Robinson, and Julian Norman also took home top spots.

“We know what the potential is within our team,” continued Coach Geyer. “It’s exciting to see it come through this early.”

ON THE BOARDS

Manny Vazquez Bas and Aimee Wilson won both the one and three-meter springboard events.

“I saw some really good things today while at the same time a lot of opportunities for improvement as we look forward to the start of our competitive season,” said LSU head diving coach Doug Shaffer. “There is a lot of talent in this young squad which I’m excited to watch develop moving forward.”
